Surreal Weather Privacy Policy
Weather that feels alive, without watching you.
No accounts
No sign-up, no profile, nothing to log in to.
No ads or tracking
No analytics, ad or crash-tracking tools.
Stays on your phone
Your cities and weather are stored only on your device.
Nothing sold or shared
We run no servers and never receive your data.
This policy explains how Surreal Weather, published by ShahKings ("we", "us"), handles your information. Your location is used only to find your city and fetch its weather.
1. Location
With your permission, the app reads your phone's location while the app is open (never in the background) to find your home city and show its weather. When you open the app later, it quietly re-checks your location, using the permission you already gave, so your home city follows you when you travel.
You can deny or revoke location access at any time in Android settings. The app still works, and you can pick cities by searching.
To turn your location into weather and a city name, your coordinates are sent to:
- Open-Meteo for weather forecasts. Terms & privacy
- Your phone's built-in geocoder (Android location services, provided by Google) to look up the city name. Google privacy policy
- BigDataCloud, only as a backup when the phone can't name the place. BigDataCloud privacy policy
These requests contain only coordinates (or a typed city name) and nothing that identifies you. Like any internet service, these providers can see your device's IP address when a request is made. All requests use encrypted HTTPS.
2. City search
Most searches run entirely on your phone using a built-in list of cities. If a small town isn't in that list, the text you typed is sent to Open-Meteo's geocoding service to find it.
3. Data stored on your phone
The app keeps your saved cities, your home city, recently downloaded weather and your sound setting in a small database on your phone. This data never leaves your device, and it is deleted when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
4. Home screen widget
The widget shows weather for your home city. It reads the same data stored on your phone and, at most every 30 minutes, fetches fresh weather from Open-Meteo for that city's coordinates.
5. What we don't do
- No accounts, sign-ins or personal profiles
- No advertising, analytics or crash-tracking tools
- No background location, microphone, contacts, photos or files access
- No selling or sharing of personal data
6. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
